Planning approval and building licence approval is required to be granted by the Town prior to installing a swimming pool or spa.
The Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1960 requires the local government to inspect the land and swimming pool periodically for compliance with the regulations so that not more than four years elapses between inspections. Swimming pools and spas within the Town which have not been inspected since 2004 are required to be re-inspected by the end of 2008. The assistance in this program from property owners with swimming pools or spas is appreciated. Swimming pool fencing or security barriers must comply, depending on the date of installation, with the following:
Isolation security fence, boundary fence or residence wall or other barrier required to be maintained. Sliding or hinged swinging doors opening from residence into the swimming pool area must not be fitted with hand or footholds and must be fitted with a self closing latching device, with latch release not less that 1.5m above floor level, to return door to closed position. Windows to residence which open into the swimming pool area with sill less that 1.2m above floor are not permitted to open more than 100mm or be totally covered by mesh screen or bars or permanently fixed (key locking of windows is not acceptable).
