The Town of Mosman Park introduced its two-stream waste collection service, utilising two mobile garbage bins (MGB's) on the 29 June 1992.
Each premises is issued with two MGB's. The 120 litre MGB (small bin) is the weekly refuse bin, and the 240 litre MGB is the fortnightly recycling bin. The recycling bin (large bin with yellow lid) is collected fortnightly on the same day as the refuse bin.
The Mobile Garbage Bin system has proved over many years to be the most efficient and effective method of waste collection and its extension into recycling is a logical and practical extension of this technology.
The MGB based co-mingled recycling service was selected because it offered convenient and effective storage or recycling material in a collection format familiar to residents.
All recyclables are simply placed in the recycling bin. A recycling calendar is delivered to all premises in July of each year. It is simply collected every fortnight with your normal rubbish bin.
What you can put in your yellow-lid recycling bin:
PLEASE RINSE ALL CONTAINERS.
DO NOT PUT RECYCLABLES IN PLASTIC BAGS.
1. Where does our recycling go?
A. Currently all collected recyclables go to Roads and Robinson's Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Maddington for sorting and on sale.
2. How much recyclable product does the Town of Mosman Park collect from residents?
A. In the 2004/2005 financial year over 1,000 tonnes of post consumer recyclables was collected from Mosman Park residents.
3. How much of the collected post consumer recyclable material is actually re-used?
A. This varies, but generally about 85% of collected material is able to be recycled.
4. Why is only 85% of collected material recycled?
A. Unfortunately not all the material residents place in their recycling bins is recyclable. Additionally there is some deterioration and/or damage of the collected material in the transport and handling process.
5. What is the major contaminent in Mosman Park's recycling?
A. Plastic Bags. Plastic bags are not recyclable in our program, additionally many residents "bag" their recyclables which makes sorting far more difficult and expensive.
6. Are recyclables sent to landfill, as sometimes claimed by the media?
A. No. Only the non-recyclable material ends up as landfill.
Place your MGB's on the street verge by 7.00am approximately one metre from the kerb, but without obstructing the footpath. Only rubbish contained in the MGB's will be collected.
Aged persons and disabled persons who have difficulty placing the MGB's on the verge on collection day should contact Council's Manager Environmental Health Services on (08) 9384 1633 or use the Contact Us form.
An officer will then visit your property to assess the problem and advise of a mutually acceptable solution.
The MGB's always remain the property of the Council. Your MGB's have serial numbers stamped on them and these numbers have been recorded against your property. The MGB's must remain at the property to which they are delivered.
For further information on the two stream waste collection service, please contact the Council Office on (08) 9384 1633 or use the Contact Us form.
Garden refuse, tree cuttings, building materials and any rubbish not in an MGB should not be stored on the road verge. A litter infringement may be issued to those found in contravention of this Local Law.
Council provides verge collections throughout the year for green waste and bulk rubbish. Click here to see dates and more detailed information.
