Parks and open space

The Technical Services Department responsible for developing and maintaining parks, ovals, playing fields, natural areas and gardens, street trees and planted areas of road reserves.

If you need to report any damage or maintenance issues for a park or reserve, contact the council office using the details at the bottom of this page.

 

Use of Parks and Gardens for Functions (Wedding Ceremonies/ Birthdays etc.)

No approval is required to conduct wedding ceremonies or birthday parties or to take photographs, etc., in parks/ reserves within the Town, (see Greenplace Reserve below).

Bookings are not taken and exclusive use is not available.

If you wish to conduct a wedding ceremony within one of Council’s parks/reserves, there is a risk that the section of park or reserve you want to utilise may already be occupied by members of the public. It should be noted that the erection of any type of barrier to exclude the public from a park/reserve or any portion thereof, is not permitted. Champagne toasts at wedding ceremonies conducted in Council’s parks/reserves are permitted, subject to any necessary regulatory approvals being obtained, however the tradition of throwing confetti is not.

The erection of marquees and/or any shelter which involves the driving into the ground of spikes, pegs, etc. is also not permitted. No guarantee can be given in relation to the appearance of parks/reserves at the time of usage, e.g., mowing , flower bed plantings, operation of fountains etc.

Greenplace Reserve

This reserve is not vested in the Council and enquiries relating to its usage should be directed to Mr Peter Kane (telephone: 9264.7777 ext.7584) at the Ministry for Planning.

Jabe Dodd Park

Prospective users of this park should note that it is the venue for a free Jazz Picnic Concert which is conducted on the third Sunday of each month (Winter months excepted) and attracts large numbers of the public to the park. The concert commences at 12 noon and concludes at approximately 4.00 p.m. Parking: Parking is permitted only in constructed carparks, parking on Council’s parks and reserves is pro-hibited and is monitored.
