Building Sustainability Initiatives
The Town of Mosman Parks focus is to inform and encourage residents in adopting resource efficient housing concepts to develop more sustainable living.
There are many opportunities available to upgrade the resource efficiencies of existing buildings and assistance may be available from the State and Federal Governments on some of the innovative methods and products.
Making the home more resource efficient may be as simple as changing a light globe, insulating the home or upgrading the toilet and with the ever increasing cost of resources it could provide a long term benefit on the hip pocket and the environment.
If your thinking of building a new home or upgrading your existing home then this is the perfect time to take advantage of passive solar design concepts and innovative energy efficient technologies. Building Regulations also require all new building work, additions and renovations of existing buildings to meet the energy efficiency provisions of the Building Code of Australia (BCA).
The following information and links is provided to give residents an insight as to what is available to improve the resource efficiency of the existing home and new building works.
Improving resource efficiency is a dynamic concept and the Town would welcome your feed back and comments to help maintain an up to date, relevant and beneficial information package. Click here to provide feedback.

Building Code of Australia
The Building Code of Australia (BCA) is a uniform set of technical provisions for the design and construction of buildings and other structures throughout Australia. It allows for variations in climate and geological or geographic conditions.
The goal of the BCA is to provide nationally consistent minimum standards relevant to health, safety (including fire and structural safety), amenity and sustainability objectives.
The BCA introduced energy efficiency measures in January 2003 as part of a comprehensive strategy being undertaken by Australian, State and Territory Governments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The plans and specifications submitted for building licence approval are assessed by the Local Authority to ensure the minimum standards of energy efficiencies are achieved.
The Building Code of Australia Volumes 1 & 2 can be referenced at the Council Office or are available for purchase. More information on the BCA is available on the Australian Buildings Code Board website:
