Heart Foundation Walking Programme

If you would like to stay active whilst being involved and socialising with other community members, click here to find out more about the Heart Foundation Walking Programme.

Community Visitors Scheme

The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) is a national program that provides companionship to socially isolated people living in Australian Government-funded aged care homes.

Volunteering as a community visitor can be a rewarding experience. By befriending an older person living in an aged care home, volunteers have a chance to make a positive difference to the residents life, as well as their own.

If you would like to refer a resident to the CVS or would like more information regarding becoming a volunteer, please click here. You can also contact Desiree Hamann via email cvs@claremontbaptistchurch.com or call her on (08) 9385 2607.

Intergenerational Internet Classes

Callobration between St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls and the local councils of Mosman Park, Cottesloe, Claremont and Peppermint Grove has resulted in a programme of free Intergenerational Internet Classes for Seniors. The project has cleverly connected the identified need for seniors to become more confident to use the internet, the need to positively link generations in the community and the new requirement for high school students to complete 20 hours of community service.

The internet classes are open to seniors who would like to learn more about basic internet functions and how to use online banking, send and recieve emails, open photographs and attachments, download pictures, attach files to an email and pay bills online. Every participant is partnered with a student volunteer from St Hilda's Anglican School for Girls, who will work with them on a one to one basis, while a facilitator will over see the workshop.

For further information or to register your interest to take part in the next class, please contact the Town of Mosman Park's Senior Community Development Officer, Laura Garside on 9384 1633.

Tales of Times Past

The Tales of Times Past Storytellers are a group of dynamic seniors who meet to tell stories to younger generations in local schools. The stories cover a wide range of subjects based on the seniors experiences and provide children with an insight into life in the early part of last century.

Tales of Times Past provides a fantastic opportunity for you to tell your tales and pass on your knowledge of the local area to the next generation. New members are always welcome. To join the group, or for further information give Peter St John Kennedy from Tales of Times Past on 0402 424 582.

Westcoast Community Centre

The Westcoast Community Centre was established in 1993 with a seed grant for equipment from the combined councils of Cottesloe, Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove and Claremont. Incorporated as Wearne Community Centre in 1994, the name was changed to Westcoast Community Centre in 2001 to overcome confusion with Wearne Hostel. Wearne and Riversea Hostel residents are honorary members of the Centre. Our motto is 'Caring and Sharing'.

The objective of Westcoast Community Centre is to create a congenial meeting place for members of the community to increase their knowledge and skills through a variety of courses, talks and visits to places of interest. Contact the Westcoast Community Centre by calling 9383 4100 or visiting www.westcoastcommunity.com.au
